Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team focused on developing electromechanical medical devices and automation systems. This role is central to translating user needs and design inputs into robust product requirements, leading system‑level design, and supporting successful integration, verification, and validation across the product lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in medical device development or similar highly regulated environments, with the ability to coordinate complex system interactions, challenge design assumptions, and drive high‑quality engineering outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Engineering & Product Development

  • Plan and execute system engineering activities across all phases of product development.
  • Translate user needs and cross‑functional design inputs (e.g., regulatory, quality, marketing, product security) into clear product requirements and traceable specifications.
  • Lead system‑level architecture, integration planning, and system characterisation.
  • Assess implications of requirements on design and testing, ensuring feasibility and completeness.

Design Evaluation & Verification

  • Lead robust design reviews to challenge assumptions, identify risks, and validate concepts.
  • Drive verification and validation planning for complex electromechanical and automation systems.
  • Guide identification of key system behaviour issues and oversee implementation of solutions for new and existing products.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

  • Work cross‑functionally with engineering, quality, regulatory, and external development partners.
  • Communicate technical challenges clearly, propose solutions, and support key decision‑making and trade‑off discussions.
  • Support global teamwork by building and maintaining productive technical relationships.
  • Share systems engineering expertise with junior engineers and other functional teams.

Execution & Delivery

  • Establish action plans for yourself and others to ensure timely delivery of engineering tasks.
  • Coordinate system-level integration and troubleshooting activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of system engineering methods, tools, and processes.

About You

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or Science (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or related field).
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in systems engineering for medical devices, IVD instruments, lab automation, or similar electromechanical products.
  • Strong ability to translate design inputs into system requirements and detailed trace matrices.
  • Experience with system architecture, integration, and characterisation testing.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical issues and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Proven experience working with external design or development partners.
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation discipline.

Desirable

  • Experience across multiple systems engineering domains: requirements management, architecture, interface control, system integration.
  • Understanding of statistical analysis, DFSS (Design for Six Sigma), DOE, and FMEA techniques.
  • Experience interpreting experimental data for design decisions.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards such as IEC 60601 and IEC 62304.
  • Experience using requirements management tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Modern Requirements).

Workplace Expectations

This role is primarily office‑based and typically requires four days per week on site to support cross‑functional collaboration, rapid problem‑solving, and hands‑on system integration and testing.
