Medical Devices Electrical Engineer
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Staff Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical design, development, and integration of complex electro‑mechanical systems used in advanced automation and medical technology platforms. This is a senior technical role requiring deep expertise in electrical engineering, safety standards, system behaviour, and cross‑functional collaboration.
You will work across the full product lifecycle—from requirements and architecture through design, testing and documentation—and play a pivotal role in ensuring system reliability, compliance, and innovation. The role also offers the opportunity to evaluate new technologies, optimise system performance, and contribute to next‑generation industrial automation capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Development
- Design and develop electro‑mechanical systems, components, and assemblies for automated platforms.
- Contribute to system architecture definition and ensure electrical design aligns with system‑level requirements.
- Translate user, regulatory, and product requirements into detailed technical specifications.
- Create electrical schematics, wiring harness designs, cabinet layouts, BOMs, and related drawings.
- Select, specify, and qualify electrical components and materials suitable for medical and industrial applications.
- Perform electro‑mechanical calculations, simulations, and feasibility assessments.
Verification, Testing & Documentation
- Conduct tests and initial sample inspections in accordance with approved test plans.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation in line with GDP (Good Documentation Practice).
- Ensure designs comply with electrical and functional safety standards, including EMC requirements.
Project Execution & Collaboration
- Prepare and maintain project plans, deliverables, and milestone tracking.
- Work closely with manufacturing, procurement, quality, and suppliers to ensure design intent is met.
- Support system integration, troubleshooting, and reliability engineering activities.
- Participate in design reviews and support risk‑based decision‑making (Design Review, DFMEA, DFSS, etc.).
- Coordinate with contract manufacturers and external engineering partners as needed.
About You
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 10+ years experience in electrical design for electro‑mechanical or automated systems.
- Strong hands‑on expertise with electrical architecture, system integration, EMC, and functional safety.
- Proven experience creating schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness/cabinet designs.
- Skilled in SolidWorks; knowledge of SolidWorks Electrical or EPlan is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment and safety analysis methods and tools (e.g., Safexpert, Sistema).
- Familiarity with standards such as EN 60204‑1, IEC 61010‑1, and the Machinery Directive.
- Experience with reliability engineering and data‑driven analysis.
- Skilled in Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Preferred Skills
- T‑shaped engineering profile: deep electrical hardware expertise with broad exposure to procurement, quality, and manufacturing.
- Experience working in regulated industries (medical devices, manufacturing automation, robotics).
- Knowledge of DFMEA, DFSS, DOE methodologies.
- Proficiency with MS Office; working experience with MS Project, Jira, and ERP systems (e.g., Sage).
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- English language required; German language skills are an advantage.
Workplace Expectations
This role requires primarily on‑site collaboration (minimum four days per week) to support hands‑on electrical development, system integration, and cross‑functional teamwork.
